Frequently Asked Questions
Turn around time is currently 8 weeks from the time your package of milk/inclusions has been received.
Breastmilk nourishes both body and bond. At Wild Tellus, we honor breastmilk as sacred- a powerful expression of devotion, resilience, and the beauty of a mothers love.
Milk is first preserved into a powder (this is how all bacteria is removed in order to prevent molding) and dried for three+ days. The powder is then meticulously hand crushed with a mortar and pestle until its is a very fine powder. It is then mixed with resin and formed into stones.
*Each collection will allow for different inclusions.*
-Breastmilk (half ounce needed/ 15ml) at least 5ml
-Lock of hair (A one inch thick lock would be ideal)
-Dried crushed placenta (1 placenta pill)
-Dried crushed Umbilical cord (cut part of stump into small fragments before sending)
-Ashes (human or pet - 1 tablespoon would be great, but we can work with whatever you are willing to send. The remainder will be returned.)
-Special flowers/leaves (press or hang dry several petals. Must be totally dry before shipping or they will mold in transit.)
-Sand from grave site or special location (one tablespoon)
*NEVER send the last of your inclusions. It would be devastating if the last of your sentimental belongings got lost in the mail by accident! Always keep some for back up!!
Please send just 15 mL (1/2 ounce) of breastmilk- this gives me plenty to create multiple keepsakes and to store a small amount on file for future use. If you are unable to send that much, send no less than 5 mL.
Many mothers find they can express 5-15 mL over the course of days or weeks, even if their breastfeeding journey has ended for some time.
Yes- absolutely! Expired, spoiled or frozen milk is perfectly fine to use for your keepsake as long as it is mold free.
At this time, Wild Tellus ships within the United States only. International shipping will be offered in the future.
Every Wild Tellus piece is made by hand, one at a time, using genuine sterling silver, natural gemstones and the most personal material there is- your own breast milk, ash, hair, umbilical cord etc.
The pendant itself is handmade by a mother silversmith rather than being a mass-produced setting. From the handcrafted jewelry components to the careful preservation and transformation of your milk, every part of the process requires time, skill and intention.
The price reflects the materials, handmade silver work, preservation process, and hours of individual labor that go into creating your piece from. beginning to end.
Nothing is mass-produced, rushed or made from a template. Each piece carries a part of your story, created slowly and intentionally to become something you can keep for a lifetime and pass down for generations.
Yes. This allows you to easily place another order in the future. If you'd prefer for me to give it back to the earth please note in your order. If you send in ashes, I will always send back remainder.
Because of the deeply personal and custom nature of each piece, returns are not accepted. Every keepsake is handmade and one of a kind- variations in milk and gemstone color are normal and tiny air bubbles are a potential.
By placing your order, you acknowledge and accept that you will receive a unique piece.
That said, I care deeply about your experience- if there's ever an issue due to a mistake on my end or a quality concern, please reach out. I'll make it right with compassion and care.
If your piece is damaged, please contact me before attempting any repairs. I'll asses the piece and let you know what options are available. If the damage is determined to be the result of a workmanship issue, I will repair the piece at no charge. Wild Tellus is not responsible for any damage resulting from improper care, storage, accidental damage, normal wear and tear or loss after your piece has been received.
Your jewelry holds a sacred story of love, birth, loss and or transformation. With gentle care, it will continue to carry that story for generations to come.
-Avoid water- Remove your jewelry before swimming or bathing to protect the preserved inclusions, metal and gemstones.
-Store with love- Keep your piece in a soft pouch or jewelry box, away from direct sunlight and humidity. *Do not store in bathroom!*
-Polish softly- Use a soft, dry polishing cloth to gently clean the sterling silver. I have added one in your pouch I send your necklace in. Avoid chemical cleaners or polishing agents.
-Handle gently- Avoid dropping or scratching. Keepsake stones and gemstones are delicate by nature.
After placing your order, you are responsible for paying shipping (typically less than $5) or if you are local to Asheville, NC you can arrange free drop off with me.
